Belgium: kilometre charge rises on 1 January in Flanders and Wallonia; Brussels stays put
Viapass has published the Belgian toll rates for heavy goods vehicles that take effect on 1 January 2027. A Euro 6 over 32 tonnes pays 1.2 cents more per kilometre in Flanders and 0.7 cents more in Wallonia. Brussels keeps its rates. Electric trucks lose part of their discount, and the Dutch NEDLINQ unit is not accepted in Belgium.
Viapass, the body that manages the per-kilometre toll for heavy goods vehicles in Belgium, has published the rates that take effect on Friday, 1 January 2027. The toll applies to all goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, Belgian or foreign.
What changes in each region
- Flanders: rises in line with inflation. From now on, the update takes place in January instead of July.
- Wallonia: rises in line with the August 2026 price index.
- Brussels: no update. Only the rates for zero-emission vehicles change.
What a Euro 6 pays
Amounts in euros per kilometre, according to the rate tables in force and from 1 January:
| Euro 6 | 12 to 32 t, now | 12 to 32 t, 2027 | Over 32 t, now | Over 32 t, 2027 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flanders, CO2 class 1 | 0.233 | 0.242 | 0.285 | 0.297 |
| Flanders, CO2 class 4 | 0.203 | 0.211 | 0.245 | 0.255 |
| Wallonia (excl. VAT) | 0.172 | 0.178 | 0.205 | 0.212 |
| Brussels, motorway | 0.166 | 0.166 | 0.171 | 0.171 |
| Brussels, rest of network | 0.233 | 0.233 | 0.271 | 0.271 |
Example: 200 km on the Flemish network with a Euro 6 over 32 tonnes, CO2 class 1, goes from €57.00 to €59.40.
Only Flanders varies the rate by the truck’s CO2 class, since 1 July 2026. In Wallonia and Brussels, the class does not yet change the price.
Electric trucks lose part of their discount
In Flanders and Brussels, zero-emission trucks pay only part of the infrastructure component. The discount falls from 80% in 2026 to 60% in 2027, and is set to fall to 40% in 2028 and 20% in 2029. The external-cost component stays at zero until the end of 2029. In Flanders, an electric truck over 32 tonnes goes from 0.038 to €0.078 per km. In Wallonia, electric trucks pay the same as a Euro 6.
The unit has to be the right one
- The on-board units (OBUs) of the seven providers accepted in Belgium receive the new rates automatically: Axxès, Satellic, Telepass, Toll4Europe, Tolltickets, TotalEnergies Marketing Services and W.A.G. Payment Solutions.
- The OBU must be switched on at all times on public roads in all three regions.
- Watch out for NEDLINQ, the Dutch toll unit: it is not accepted in Belgium. Even with the green light on, it is not paying the Belgian toll, and the truck can be fined.
In the Netherlands, the temporary 22.3% toll discount ends on 31 December, the day before this Belgian increase. For traffic restrictions, see driving bans in Belgium.
