Indicative tool. It applies Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, with Regulation (EU) 2020/1054, and Portuguese Decree-Law 84/2026 (working time and fines, in force since 12 July 2026). It does not replace the tachograph and does not cover the AETR or the UK agreement. Fines are calculated with the UC at €102; as a rule the company is liable, unless it proves it organised the work so the driver could comply (Art. 36).

          What the calculator applies

          Night means touching 0:00–5:00

One minute of work between 0:00 and 5:00 is enough for the day to count as night work. Work, driving included, is then capped at 10 hours per 24 hours after the rest. Periods of availability do not count (Art. 22 of Decree-Law 84/2026).

          Three or four weeks

The company organises the work so the driver is at home or at base, on a regular rest, every four weeks. With two reduced rests in a row, the next one, with the compensation, already has to be at home — three weeks away.

          6 hours of continuous work

Even without reaching 4h30 of driving, loading and unloading add up. After 6 hours of work you must stop; the day’s breaks add up to 30 minutes above 6 h and 45 above 9 h.

          15 + 30, never 30 + 15

A first break longer than 15 minutes still counts as 15. The second must be at least 30. That is why 30 + 15 and 25 + 25 are infringements.

          Fixed week

The 56 h, the 90 h and the 60 h of work run from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 24:00, not from the gap between rests.

          Ferry or train

A regular daily rest, or a reduced weekly rest, may be interrupted at most twice, 1 hour in total, to board and drive off, with a bunk, couchette or cabin. The interruptions do not count as rest and everything must fit within the 24 hours. A regular weekly rest on board needs a cabin and a crossing of 8 hours or more (Art. 9).

          144 hours

The weekly rest starts, at the latest, at the end of six 24-hour periods from the end of the previous one. A delay of 3 hours is already serious; 12 hours, very serious.
