Spain: the actual professional diesel discount came to 5 cents, not the 20 promised
Fenadismer reports that Royal Decree-Law 18/2026 provided for up to 20 cents a litre in direct discount, but the amount actually felt at the pump in September came to just 5 cents — part of the tax cut was absorbed into the retail price. The association has requested a meeting with the Ministry of Economy for a new package from October.
As we reported earlier, support for professional diesel in Spain expires on 30 September, with the CETM warning of a rise of up to 24 cents a litre if the government doesn’t approve a replacement measure in time. Fenadismer now adds a development that changes the sums for anyone already refuelling in Spain: the discount that actually reached the pumps in September fell well short of what was promised.
What Fenadismer reports
Royal Decree-Law 18/2026 provided for up to 20 cents a litre in direct discount, on top of the tax component. In practice, the amount hauliers felt at the pump in September came to just 5 cents a litre — the association attributes the gap to part of the tax cut being absorbed into the retail price, meaning the discount didn’t reach the end consumer in full.
What Fenadismer is asking for
The association has already requested a meeting with Spain’s Ministry of Economy to negotiate a new direct-support package from October, one that replaces — and this time ensures actually reaches the pump — what expires on 30 September.
What to do
There is still no replacement decree published in the BOE. Anyone operating in Spain or crossing the country should keep following the outcome and not assume that any future discount will be felt in full at the price paid — September’s record shows it might not be.
