Portugal tests electronic freight documents with IMT, GNR and Luís Simões

An eFTI pilot trialled document sharing between carrier and enforcement. The exercise prepares the future national portal.

CP Newsroom

Portugal’s IMT, the GNR and the operator Luís Simões took part in a test to share freight transport information electronically. The IMT reported the exercise on 9 September, under the European eFTI4EU project.

The trial tested, in real conditions, how authorities access the documentation made available by the operator. It is part of the preparation of the national eFTI portal, intended for exchanging information between companies and enforcement bodies.

What it means for the carrier

This is an implementation exercise. The announcement does not create an immediate obligation to replace paper documents.

The IMT points to 9 July 2027 as the date from which Member State authorities will have to accept electronic information under the eFTI regulation. The Portuguese exercise helps build that enforcement capability and the links between platforms.
