France: OTRE and FAI call hauliers to Paris on 21 October over fuel prices

The Organisation des Transporteurs Routiers Européens and the Fédération des Autocaristes Indépendants announce a mobilisation in Paris on 21 October — "and following days" — over rising professional diesel prices. The format (whether it involves a road blockade or just a demonstration) is not yet set. It adds to the CFDT Route strike already called for 16 October, over wages.

The Organisation des Transporteurs Routiers Européens (OTRE) and the Fédération des Autocaristes Indépendants (FAI) announced this week a mobilisation of freight and passenger transport companies in Paris, starting on 21 October 2026 — the statement’s own title reads “and following days”, leaving open the possibility of further action after that date.

Four demands

  1. A cut in fuel prices at the pump.
  2. A stronger diesel indexation mechanism for road freight, with a single, binding reference — today, passing fuel costs on to transport prices is seen as slow and uneven between contracts.
  3. Immediate reassessment of transport prices, with fuel increases passed on in full.
  4. Reinstating hauliers into the French government’s support schemes, from which they say they were excluded.

Format not yet set

OTRE has not confirmed whether the Paris action will involve a road blockade, organised go-slow or just a street demonstration — the “format will be made clear shortly”, per the statement. This article will be updated once OTRE confirms it.

Adds to the 16 October strike

This mobilisation adds to the CFDT Route strike already called for 16 October, over wages — a different union, a different demand, but the same month. Anyone crossing France with goods or passengers should plan for possible disruption on two separate dates in October, not just one.

All Saints' Day: Spain restricts heavy goods vehicles from 30 October to 2 November, with a cut on the A-62 for hauliers coming from Portugal

The DGT closes Madrid exits and entries on four different days, from Friday to the following Monday, because of All Saints' Day (1 November, which falls on a Sunday this year). For hauliers crossing between Spain and Portugal, the most direct cut is again on the A-62, towards the Portuguese border, on Friday and Saturday.

Weekend 24-25 October: heavy-vehicle driving bans across Europe

This weekend (24-25 October 2026) the usual weekend driving bans apply to heavy vehicles in at least ten European countries, with no public holiday and no change from last weekend — but it is also the night continental Europe switches from summer to winter time. Hours, exemptions and the critical routes for hauliers leaving the Iberian Peninsula.
