Tyrol staggers heavy-goods traffic on Mondays at Kufstein through autumn 2026

The Land Tyrol's autumn schedule includes several Mondays in a row — 7, 14, 21 and 28 September — with heavy-goods metering at the Kufstein-Nord checkpoint on the A12, southbound, starting at 05:00 with no fixed end time. It isn't a closure, but a queue that can cost hours for anyone crossing the Brenner.

Land Tyrol has published its autumn schedule for automated heavy-goods metering at the Kufstein-Nord checkpoint on the A12, southbound (Germany → Austria). Among the marked dates are several Mondays in a row — 7, 14, 21 and 28 September 2026 — which weren’t previously listed on the site.

How it works

This isn’t a road closure: it’s an electronic metering system that limits how many lorries enter the checkpoint per hour, to stop the A12 grinding to a halt further along. Metering starts at 05:00 and continues for as long as traffic volumes require it — Land Tirol and ÖAMTC confirm there is no fixed end time: metering is lifted automatically once conditions on the motorway return to normal.

What it means for hauliers leaving Portugal

Anyone crossing the Brenner via the A12 on an autumn Monday should expect an extra queue at Kufstein early in the morning, and should plan their daily rest so as not to get caught by metering mid-journey. The full calendar, including any new dates added later, is always available on the Land Tirol website.
